How to get more work from customers you've already had
Your previous customers are the easiest source of new work. Here's how small businesses can bring them back without spending on ads.

Every business already has a list of people who have paid them, trusted them and know where they live. Most never contact them again.
Start by getting the list in one place, names, mobile numbers, what work you did and when. If that list only exists across a phone, a diary and a few invoices, that's the first job.
Then think in terms of natural reasons to be in touch. Annual services, boiler checks before winter, gutter clears in autumn, hot tub servicing in spring, safety checks for landlords.
One clear, useful message beats a newsletter. Say what the job is, why now, and how to book it. Two sentences is fine.
Frequency matters. A handful of well-timed messages a year is welcome. Monthly marketing to a domestic customer is not.
Done consistently, this is often the difference between a quiet January and a full one, and it costs nothing but the message.
